October Release: Apple's First M3-Powered Macs
Brace yourself for the groundbreaking release of Apple's inaugural M3-powered Macs, poised to redefine the computing landscape.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman reveals that insider sources have divulged plans for an October event following Apple's September announcement of the iPhone 15 series. Taking into account the current product lineup, it appears that the event will primarily focus on unveiling new Macs equipped with the cutting-edge M3 chips.
Considering that Apple introduced the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in January, followed by the recent launch of the 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro models in June, Gurman speculates that the next iMac, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro will be the initial recipients of the M3 chip's advancements.
Looking further down the line, Gurman's earlier report suggests that early 2024 will witness the debut of the highly anticipated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, now powered by the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.
The M3 chip is projected to be fabricated using TSMC's cutting-edge 3nm process, promising significant leaps in performance and power efficiency compared to the 5nm-based M2 chip utilized in Apple's most recent Mac iterations. TSMC initiated mass production of the 3nm chips in late December, solidifying their technological prowess.
